ABOUT THE DOC
Dr. Charles J. Infurna has over a decade of coaching experience in which he has mentored and coached a multitude of throwers to breaking national records, winning national championships, and earning All-American awards.
Most recently, Dr. Infurna's throwers re-wrote the male throwing records at Alfred State College. In 2023, senior Dylan Perlino finished 5th in the discus at the Division III Outdoor National Championships, earning an All-American award. Dylan currently holds the school records in the weight throw, discus and hammer throw. He is a multiple time outdoor conference champion in the discus, shot-put and hammer throw. Dylan is the outdoor conference school record holder in the discus and hammer throw. In total, Alfred State throwers won over 10 combined outdoor conference championships in the men's shot-put, men's and women's discus throw, and the men's and women's hammer throw.
While at Nazareth College, Dr. Infurna’s throwers re-wrote all the throwing records. Overall, his throwers have won one Division III Indoor National Championship, earned 4 All-American awards, broke numerous conference records, and won conference championships in the 35# weight throw, discus, and hammer throw. Dr. Infurna’s athletes have also been recognized as the Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, as well as multiple Empire 8 Conference Indoor and Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year recipients. Dr. Infurna’s athletes have also been recognized by conference coaching staffs as Empire 8 Conference Field Performer of the Meet on multiple occasions.
Before coming to Nazareth, Dr. Infurna was the assistant throwing coach at his alma mater, SUNY Fredonia. In his brief time there, his athletes went on to secure one Division III Indoor National Championship, 6 All-American awards, broken numerous conference records, and won multiple SUNYAC conference championships in the 20# weight throw, discus, hammer throw, and shot-put. Similar to his athlete successes at Nazareth College, his athletes were also awarded Atlantic Region Indoor Field Performers of the Year, as well as SUNYAC Field Performers of the Year.
Dr. Infurna is the owner of Forza Athletics, a USATF sanctioned club focused on developing and coaching young throwers in Western, NY, as well as supporting post-collegiate throwers that continue to chase their Olympic dreams. Since beginning his club in 2016, post-collegiate Forza athletes have competed at two US Indoor National Track & Field Championships. In 2017, Luis Rivera broke the Puerto Rican National Record in the 35# weight throw, hitting a mark of 22.01m.
His Forza Athletics high school athletes have attained similar successes in the throwing events. Monique Hardy, a 2020 Webster Thomas graduate and current LSU thrower, won one New Balance National Championship in 2019 (weight throw). She is the #2 ranked all-time high school female in the 20lb. weight throw. She won the 2020, 2019, and 2018 New York State Championship in the 20# weight throw. She has earned 1 Junior Olympic National Championship in the hammer throw, as well as winning numerous regional championships in the shot-put and discus. She is a 6x High School All-American.
In 2019, Senior William Gross became only the 5th thrower in New York State to throw the weight 70’ and shot-put 50’ in a season. He accomplished this feat in the same meet. Mr. Gross won the 2019 New York State Indoor Track & Field Championship in the 25# weight throw. Mr. Gross earned a scholarship and is currently competing for the Akron Zips.
In 2018, senior thrower Drew Palermo finished 4th in the nation in the 25# weight throw, earning an All-American finish. He holds multiple regional records in the 25# weight throw. Mr. Palermo is only the 4th thrower in New York State history to throw the 25# weight over 70’ and the shot-put over 50’ in the same season. He finished the season ranked in the top 10 nationally in the 25# throw. He earned an athletic scholarship, and is now competing at the Division I level.
